Jungle Gym Workout

More than just for monkeying around!

Being outdoors and enjoying nice weather is one of my favorite things to do in the summer! A good way to do this is to go to a playground and channel your inner child, but also get a workout in.

Here are some short videos of exercises you can do with standard playground equipment:

Core workout with swings

Step back from the swing so that you are in a plank position on your toes, with your weight shifted forward. Keeping your body and arms straight, push the swing forward with your arms slowly and return to plank. Make sure to keep your core engaged.

Reverse push ups on a step

This are a great tricep workout! Sit on a step with your feet out in front of you. Turn your hands so your fingers point towards your body and your elbows hug your ribs. Bend from the elbows and lift your hips off the step, keeping the rest of your body straight. Do at least one set of 8 full range push ups, and then hold halfway and do a set of small pulses. Then hold for 8 counts at the end.

You can also do regular push ups with your hands on the step for elevation.

Elevated lunges

Place one leg on the step and the other on the ground and use your bottom leg to push off the ground and bring your knee up towards your chest. For an extra challenge for your standing leg, keep your knee slightly bent to work your thigh muscles. Be sure to do both legs!

And of course, have fun on the jungle gym because that’s what they are for!
