Happy National Hot Chocolate Day! To celebrate, I made not just hot chocolate, but GELATO hot chocolate! You only need 3 ingredients to make this!
This is an extra rich and creamy hot chocolate, using Sacred Serve plant-based gelato. Sacred Serve is a Chicago-based plant-powered gelato, and excitingly, they just launched at all Chicago Mariano’s! Not only are each of their many flavors delicious, their packaging is also 100% recyclable and compostable for more sustainability.
If you thought ice cream and gelato was only for summertime, think again! The gelato is the star and key ingredient for this easy hot chocolate, adding an amazing creamy texture, as well as sweetening the beverage! It also helps cool it down so you can enjoy your hot chocolate right away at the perfect temp without burning your tongue (which is my constant struggle with hot chocolate). I used the chaga chocolate and matcha mint chip flavors, which were both perfect for this!
You can make this with your favorite gelato or ice cream flavor. Chocolate-based flavors work best of course, but vanilla, mint, or strawberry could work too - anything that pairs well with chocolate!
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients (makes 1 serving)
1 cup plant-based milk
2 tbsp cocoa powder
About ⅓ cup gelato or ice cream
1 tsp vanilla (optional but recommended)
Note: If using a mint chip gelato/ice cream flavor, you can also
add 1 tsp peppermint oil to amp up the minty flavor!
Steps:
1. Heat milk and cocoa powder (and vanilla if you are using this) on the stove at medium heat, whisking until the cocoa powder is fully dissolved.
2. Once the mixture is steaming, pour it into a mug. Mix in about ⅓ cup gelato flavor of your choice, then enjoy!
Thank you Sacred Serve for sponsoring this post. It was great using your tasty gelato to create a new cozy recipe!
